Vivid Reimagined

In 2018 PCC worked with Imagination Australia and Samsung on a unique and fun experience at Sydney’s light, art and technology event, Vivid.

The Night Reimagined involved a giant 9, in a spiraling aperture-inspired installation of LED within an extravagant designed set. Inside the build patrons were able to use the new Samsung S9 to create an animated emoji selfie. Once the selfie was captured by Imagination Digital IT, PCC ensured its safe passage over a robust and sophisticated network, to Luna Park. Once recieved BE Productions projected the Emojis onto the face of Luna Park.

Australian Open 2018

PCC provided skilled labour to Mediatec Asia Pacific for the operation of court side LED advertising banners using Watchout media servers. The project uses high resolution LED and involves a complex control system to suit the large pixel space and specific requirements from Tennis Australia and its sponsors. This project is managed by the dedicated team at Mediatec.

2017 Falls Festival Traffic Lights

In 2017, PCC was approached by The Falls Festival to assist with traffic management concerns at their Lorne site. Intersection ‘X’ is an area where cars and and pedestrians meet as vehicles move from back-of-house to the main road, and also where pedestrians enter and exit the main arena from the camp ground.

PCC developed a custom traffic light system using low voltage LED traffic lights. The system provided clear indicators for traffic to flow smoothly, and was made simple enough to be operated by volunteers reliably.

AFL Grand Final

Telstra Vantage

In September 2017 PCC worked with Imagination Australia and Telstra to help deliver the Vantage exhibition for Telstra business customers.

Complete Wifi Coverage

PCC worked with Telstra to rig and deploy over 300 access points throughout the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre. Custom brackets and mounts we designed, laser cut and fitted with fast rig clamps to allow for the rapid distribution in a tight time frame.

Radios

PCC designed and delivered a 100+ trunked radio system. Full coverage was provided throughout the connvention centre and South Wharf precicnt. Customised inventory management software tracked usage of radios and accessories.

A custom radio sign out and barcoded asset management system was also built and facilitated the tracking of the radios and their accessories.

ANZ Strategy Launch

Imagination Australia approached PCC to assist with the technical coordination of a network to be used for a global conference for the ANZ bank.

PCC worked with Paul Barrett and the Barrett Evolution team to deliver a robust IP network that allowed for the successful communication between four site. Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney and Melbourne as HQ were all successfully linked together.

A secure VPN was used to bridge 4 wire comms (an ingenious Barrett idea) and also provided redundant audio. The Evimeet and Eviport platforms were the fundamental video link, an innovative replacement to traditional ISDN and Polycom style services.

During the event PCC provided live monitoring of key elements of the network and coordinated with the different cities to maximise network performance and effective communication paths.

Disaster Relief Vehicles

PCC was approached by NBN’s Network Emergency Management Team to deliver four vehicles specifically designed to assist emergency services and relief centres in difficult times.

Based on the design of the existing Community Vehicles the new and enhanced trucks have been designed for large amounts of flexibility and a particular focus on reliability.

To allow for remote support and management Cisco Meraki devices are at the core of the network design. Each vehicle also carries a VoIP kit to allow for emergency services to coordinate effectively in intense environments. This is in addition to a portable wifi kit which allows for the provision of additional wifi services within disaster relief centres to support critical teams as well as evacuees.

The vehicles are a unique design we hope will add value to community.

HP Omen Truck

Commissioned in August 2017, PCC began the design and fitout of a custom semi-trailer for the new HP Omen Laptop, created by Traffik managed by Bestoh.

Purpose and Scope

The HP Omen Truck is designed as the ultimate touring gamer setup. Customised for demonstrating the power of the new Omen Laptop (and on occasion Hp Omen Desktop) patrons enter the arena hosting a 6 vs 6 game of Overwatch. The truck has live mixing capabilities offering both external broadcast and a 2.5m LED screen.

Network and Power Design

Over an 8 week period PCC designed a flexible network and power distribution system. This design allowed for multiple high speed connections as well as a balanced dual provider 4G backup system to be utlised in rural and outdoor environments. The entire core system is suspended in a custom made 48RU rack with two part long term suspension kit.

Video and Broadcast

Each laptop in the truck feeds back to a main control room allowing feeds to be directly displayed on both the large LED screen and broadcast to streaming services and via SDI. This can be mixed by a local operator or via tablet from the gaming floor itself thanks to a custom made interface between the ATEM studio and control surfaces. The included 24 patch points around, both inside and outside the truck, can be used for incoming or outgoing feeds of both audio and video maximised for flexibility in all environments.

New PCC Office

In July PCC moved into its new office in Altona North. The new space provides a spacious working environment and safe storage area for sensitive electronics.

The office is a fun and comfortable space for nerds to interact and monitor all of our events. Upstairs the training room is great for delivering Vectorworks Courses and also for meetings.

As happy as we are to have the new space, we are also extremely grateful to the good people of Pro Stage Victoria who have helped us for so long.

Freedom of Movement

In April PCC teamed up with Imagination Australia to assist with a unique interactive installation planned for the 2017 Vivid Festival by the Ford Motor Group.

The project involved large robotic swings representing the pistons of an engine which were built by Simple Motion. During the night time festival on each hour the swings animated and illuminated to a soundscape composed by Samplify. In-between the shows the swings were open for the public to interact with. As children and adults alike swung on the giant structures, the swings responded to their velocity and speed with lights and sounds creating an interactive installation.

PCC used sensor feedback from Simple Motion’s automation controller, and calculated velocity, azimuth, and direction. With these values, various states could be calculated and based on certain movements (swinging forwarded, drifting back etc). PCC then sent direct commands into the lighting console to trigger appropriate lighting effects to match the actions. These were all pre-programmed by Ziggy Ziegler over several evenings of design and experimentation.

The sound effects were composed by Samplify along with the soundscape for the hourly feature. PCC triggered the sounds and lighting effects in unison with a custom interface PCC created that allowed for accurate adjustments to ensure synchronicity.

The end result was a spectacular show of light, sound and movement which rapidly became one of the most popular attractions of the 2017 Vivid Festival. PCC was proud to provide technical expertise to such a unique and engaging project. The ability to be part of the glue that bought such a special exhibition of creativity and technology together with such sophistication was an excellent challenge.

The ‘Freedom of Movement’ project won the 2017 Event Awards - Best Technical Achievement Award.
